Job Title: Yard Goat Driver

Salary Range: $23 to $28 hr depending on experience

Position Summary:
The Yard Goat Operator is responsible for driving and maneuvering the yard goat and trailers throughout the yard while also assisting with general yard housekeeping, organization, and maintenance to ensure a safe, clean, and efficient work environment. CDL license is not required.

Responsibilities:

• Safely operate a yard goat to move, spot, and organize refrigerated trailers and equipment within the yard.
• Coordinate trailer positioning with service writers, technicians, and dispatch to ensure efficient shop workflow.
• Inspect trailers before and after movement to ensure units are properly secured and report any visible damage or mechanical issues.
• Perform basic manual labor tasks as needed to maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety in the yard and shop areas.
• Ensure proper trailer placement for pre-delivery inspection (PDI), maintenance, and outbound readiness.
• Comply with all traffic laws, yard rules, and environmental/weather-related operating limitations.
• Follow all safety protocols and use appropriate PPE while operating equipment and performing duties.
• Assist with basic support tasks such as fueling units, jump-starting equipment, or repositioning vehicles as directed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management in alignment with the operational needs of Sonsray Fleet Services.
• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the yard as a regular part of daily responsibilities. Duties include picking up trash and debris, sweeping and cleaning work areas, organizing trailers and equipment, maintaining designated storage locations, and ensuring the yard remains safe, clean, and presentable at all times.
• Assist with general yard and facility maintenance projects as directed by management to support efficient and safe operations.

Qualifications:

• 1+ year of experience operating a yard goat, switcher, or similar equipment in a commercial or fleet yard environment.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL is a plus but not required.
• Familiarity with refrigerated trailers and basic yard safety practices.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform moderate physical labor.
• Strong communication skills and ability to take direction in a fast-paced environment.
• Dependable, safety-conscious, and committed to maintaining yard organization and workflow.
